MM2H, Boarding Schools and Parent Accompaniment
A Malaysian international or boarding school place does not necessarily require the whole family to obtain MM2H first. MM2H families should check dependent-child education rules; others can compare Student Pass and eligible parent accompaniment. Boarding is not a visa category. Check admission, boarding age, tuition, accommodation, holiday care and guardianship with the school. Admission, study permission and parental residence require separate assessment; none guarantees permanent residence.

Prepare & Legalize Documents in Home Country
Prepare passport, financial documents and a good-conduct certificate through a MOTAC-licensed MM2H operator. Required translations and certification depend on the document.
Submit for Official Review & Await Approval
A MOTAC-licensed MM2H operator submits the application through the One-Stop Centre. Timing and the decision depend on official review.
Land in Malaysia, Buy Property & Deposit
After conditional approval, land in Malaysia to purchase the designated property and make the bank time deposit.
Medical Exam, Final Review & MM2H Stamping
Complete a medical exam, buy local medical insurance, and go to the Immigration Department for final review and visa stamping.
Do parents need MM2H when their child attends boarding school in Malaysia?
Not necessarily. Ask which study permissions the school accepts and what visa support it offers. A child needing a Student Pass applies under the school category. Eligible parents or guardians require separate accompaniment approval and may not work or conduct business. Families also planning a long-term home can compare MM2H deposit, property and presence obligations. School guardianship is not immigration permission and does not automatically give the family residence.
Can I work in Malaysia after getting MM2H?
MOTAC permits employment and business/investment activities under Platinum. Gold, Silver and SEZ/SFZ do not permit employment or business; another relevant pass is required.
